Finding great dog-friendly shopping in Barcelona can be a bit confusing, but many major malls and high-street retailers are highly welcoming to pets. While Spain's national animal welfare laws have made public spaces more welcoming, individual businesses and shopping centers still set their own explicit rules.

If you are planning a shopping trip, this guide covers exactly where your dog is welcome and where you should leave them safely at home.

Can You Bring a Dog to IKEA Barcelona? YES! (except restaurant)

IKEA Spain welcomes pets as part of the family. You can absolutely bring your dog along to shop at IKEA. However, there are a few standard rules to keep in mind for a smooth visit:

  • Where they can go: Dogs are allowed throughout the main showroom and marketplace areas, but they are strictly restricted from entering the Restaurant and the Swedish Food Market.

  • On the floor: Your dog must be kept on a short, non-extendable leash (maximum 1.5 meters) or remain in a secure pet carrier.

  • Breed regulations: In line with local Spanish law, any potentially dangerous dog breeds (PPP) must wear a muzzle and a short leash at all times.

Is Zara Dog-Friendly in Barcelona? YES!

Inditex brands (including Zara, Massimo Dutti, Pull&Bear, and Bershka) generally allow well-behaved dogs inside their Barcelona storefronts, such as the flagship locations on Passeig de Gràcia or Diagonal Mar.

  • The Rule: Your dog must be kept on a short leash and closely supervised so they do not interfere with other shoppers or clothing displays.

Can Dogs Go Into El Corte Inglés? YES! (but with restrictions)

El Corte Inglés across Barcelona allows dogs to enter, but they must adhere to a clear code of conduct:

  • Dogs must be on a lead and either carried or kept very close.

  • Most locations require larger dogs to wear a muzzle while inside.

  • Dogs are completely restricted from entering supermarket zones or any floor area serving food.

If you want an all-in-one shopping day where your pup can walk the corridors with you, stick to these specific shopping centers:

  • Westfield Glòries & La Maquinista: Both open-air complexes are highly accommodating, making it incredibly easy to navigate the main avenues with a pet.

  • Diagonal Mar & Gran Via 2: Fully enclosed but completely pet-friendly in the common walkways. Look for green stickers on individual shop doors to see if dogs can enter.

  • Maremagnum: Located at Port Vell, this indoor mall allows leashed dogs throughout the main corridors - perfect for a waterfront retail day.

Essential Rules for Retail Shopping with Your Dog

To keep Barcelona's retail spaces open and welcoming to the canine community, always practice good shopping etiquette:

  1. Keep it Short: Use a non-retractable, short leash to ensure your dog stays right by your side in tight clothing aisles.

  2. Avoid Food Zones: Never bring your dog into the grocery or restaurant sections of department stores.

  3. Check the Door: Look for the small dog silhouette sticker near the shop entrance. If it has a red slash, step back; if it's green, you are good to go!
