Dog Beach Barcelona: Our Visit to Playa de Llevant

For Charlie’s birthday we decided to check out Barcelona’s official dog beach, as the other beaches don't allow dogs at that time of the year. I was surprised by how positive the whole vibe was. Dogs and people playing in the water and relaxing together. There was plenty of space and the area was nice and clean.

Getting There

The dog beach was super easy to reach. We took the tram, and after just an eight-minute walk, we arrived at this special spot designed entirely for dogs and their owners. It’s located at Playa de Llevant in Poblenou, the only beach in Barcelona where dogs are officially allowed to run free and swim during summer.

The Atmosphere

The first thing we noticed was the relaxed and friendly vibe. People were sitting back, enjoying the sun, while dogs played, swam, and chased each other in the waves. What made it extra special was the harmony - dogs of all sizes running and swimming together without a single fight. The beach felt safe, welcoming, and filled with positive energy.

Facilities for Dogs

Barcelona has done a great job making this beach truly dog-friendly. There are:

  • Shower stations for rinsing off the sand and saltwater.

  • Free poop bag stations to keep the area clean.

  • Water drinking stations so dogs can stay hydrated.

The beach itself is big, clean, and clearly maintained with care. Everything is thought through to make the visit easy and comfortable for both humans and dogs.

Is Playa Llevant dog beach worth a visit?

After hearing different opinions about the beach I was a bit sceptical but it was a really positive experience. Seeing so many dogs running, swimming, and playing freely in the sea while owners relaxed around them created a unique sense of community. It’s one of those things that makes you smile all the way home.

If you live in Barcelona or are just visiting with your dog, go check it out for yourself.
