Can I Take My Dog to the Beach in Barcelona?


Yes - but only during the off-season


From October to March, dogs are allowed on most beaches in Barcelona, as there are fewer visitors and no bathing activity. During this time, you can bring your dog (on a leash) to popular beaches like:


  • Barceloneta Beach

  • Nova Icaria Beach

  • Bogatell Beach


Important: Your dog must be leashed and well-behaved to ensure a positive experience for everyone. Always clean up after your pet.



No - during peak season (April to September)


From April to September, dogs are not permitted on most city beaches due to high visitor volume and safety concerns. This includes all bathing beaches unless otherwise designated.


The Barceloneta & Somorrostro Summer Ban

Because Barceloneta and Somorrostro are Barcelona's most famous beaches, many dog owners naturally head there first, often without realizing that dogs are not allowed during the summer season.

Throughout these warmer months, dogs are strictly prohibited at all times, and the local Guàrdia Urbana regularly patrols these beaches. Ignoring the rules can result in fines of up to €1,500.

Llevant Dog Beach: Open All Year for Dogs

Llevant Dog Beach is the only officially designated dog beach in Barcelona and is open during the summer bathing season. It is specially designed to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for dogs and their owners.

Guide Dogs Are Always Allowed
