About Dogs Barcelona

Dogs Barcelona is a local resource and community for people who live with dogs in Barcelona.

For more than 11 years, our community has connected dog owners, shared local knowledge and helped make life with dogs in Barcelona a little easier. Thousands of people are now part of our Facebook community.

The website exists for one simple reason: living with a dog in Barcelona is great, but sometimes you need to know where to go, what the rules are, and who to ask. From dog-friendly beaches and parks to public transport, vets, dog sitters, restaurants, activities, and seasonal safety information, Dogs Barcelona brings useful local information together in one place.

How it started

After adopting our dog Charlie, we discovered how valuable it was to connect with other dog owners in Barcelona. People were constantly sharing recommendations, asking questions and helping each other with the everyday challenges of having a dog in the city.

What started as a small community has grown into a group of more than 18,000 dog owners and dog lovers.

Over the years, thousands of conversations have covered everything from finding a good vet or dog sitter to discovering new places to walk, understanding local regulations and sharing advice about life with dogs in Barcelona.

The website was created to build on that community knowledge and make useful information easier to find.

How We Create and Update Our Content

Dogs Barcelona combines the experience of our local community with research from official and reliable sources. Our goal is to make information about living with dogs in Barcelona useful, practical and trustworthy.

1 .

Community Knowledge

We start with the people who actually live with dogs in Barcelona. Recurring questions, recommendations, experiences and local developments help us understand what information is useful to the community.

2.

Research & Verification

We check important information against relevant official and primary sources, including the Ajuntament de Barcelona, TMB and other reliable local organisations, particularly for rules, transport, access, health and safety.

3.

Keeping It Current

Barcelona changes, and so does the information dog owners need. We update our guides when we become aware of changes and welcome corrections and new information from our community.

Something changed?

If you spot information that needs updating, please let us know. Community feedback helps us keep Dogs Barcelona useful for everyone.

Who Runs Dogs Barcelona?

Meet Jannie -  the founder behind Dogs Barcelona.

She has a background in the music industry, web design and creative projects, and is passionate about dogs and making sure they are well cared for.

She manages the website and oversees the community with the help of a small team of volunteer administrators who help keep our Facebook group friendly, relevant and well moderated.

Our admin team is kept private to protect them from unwanted contact, particularly as they often deal with private messages and personal situations from members.

To maintain a safe, spam-free environment focused on useful, positive conversations, we enforce a strict vetting framework:

Manual Approval

Every membership request is reviewed manually by a real person. Applicants must answer three questions and agree to our community rules before joining.

Quality Over Quantity

We don't accept everyone who clicks "Join". We regularly reject more than 50% of incoming requests, keeping the community relevant and genuinely engaged.

Why So Strict?

In our experience, if someone doesn't take the time to answer three simple questions and accept the rules before joining, they are less likely to follow those rules once inside.
