Traveling with your dog in Barcelona is a wonderful experience, but knowing the public transport rules is crucial for a smooth journey. This guide provides an overview of regulations for taking dogs on the metro, bus, and tram, along with helpful tips and fun facts about dog-friendly travel in our vibrant city

Barcelona Metro and Trams: YES! - on lead and with muzzle

Dogs are allowed on the metro, as long as they are kept in a carrier or on a leash with a muzzle.

Small dogs (those that can fit in a carrier or bag) can travel freely.

Larger dogs: must be muzzled and on a leash.

Time Restrictions: Dogs can only travel during off-peak hours, so they are not allowed on the metro and trams between 7.00 and 9.30 am, and between 5.00 and 7.00 pm.

Behavior: Dogs should be well-behaved and not disturb other passengers.

Only one dog per person is allowed

The dog must have a registered chip for identification

Barcelona Buses: Only small dogs!

Only Small dogs (those that can fit in a carrier) can travel on buses. 

Time Restrictions: Unlike the metro, there are no specific time restrictions for dogs on buses. However, it's best to avoid peak hours if possible.

Carrier Requirement: Small dogs should be in a suitable carrier or bag while on the bus.

Behavior: Dogs must be well-behaved and not disturb other passengers.

Seating: Dogs are not allowed to occupy seats. They should remain on the floor.

FGC (Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya):
YES - muzzled and on a lead

Dogs are allowed on the FGC, as long as they are kept in a carrier or on a leash with a muzzle.
